Mt. Daraitan - Tinipak River

Tinipak River
Last October 5, 2013, my friends and I agreed to go trekking at Daraitan, Tanay, Rizal. There are several activities that you can do here like trekking along the river, spelunking, camping or swimming at the river. Actually, Tinipak River was awarded as the cleanest inland body of water in Region IV. Well for our group, we will just be having a day trip so no camping since this is just a spur of the moment type of trip.

We left the house around 5am. We bought some foods and then went to Shaw which is just a trike away from my apartment. The jeepney station going to Tanay is located at Shaw Boulevard, across the side of Starmall. We paid around Php53 and left by 6am. I thought they will wait until the jeep is full since we are in a terminal. But no! We left immediately and they just picked up passengers along the way. We had a long but fast trip (around 1.5 hrs) going to Tanay Public Market. Good thing I brought my sweater with me since it was so cold. A fast jeepney ride = strong cold wind blowing. I enjoyed the overlooking Manila view along the way, Antipolo part, during sunrise. :)

Upon arrival at Tanay Public Market, we immediately looked for the jeepney station going to Brgy. Daraitan which is at the back of the market. From what I've heard, there is a schedule of trip in the morning and the afternoon. And we missed the morning ride so as an alternative, we hired a tricycle for Php100 each (we are 4 in our group). Its quite a long trip too around 1hr.

Our tricycle ride going to Brgy. Daraitan. Along the highway.

After leaving the highway, we went up in a major rough road. As in "Major major"! ;)

I was nervous throughout the trip as I couldn’t believe how a tricycle could make it in such a very rough road. We have to unload and walk at some point whenever the trike is having difficulty to go uphill.

Rough road. The roughness is still tolerable since I was able to take pictures haha!

The tricycle cannot take us anymore haha! so we needed to walk for a while until the road is not that rough and not uphill
Final destination of our trike ride

we need to cross the river

off we go to boat terminal :)

our boat ride: Php 5

Another tricycle ride going to Brgy Hall: Php 10

At Brgy Daraitan Hall. Meet our tour guide. Guide fee is P500. Registration fee is P20

There is a canteen right in from of the brgy hall. We had our brunch here. Fried chicken costs Php 10 only! How is that!  :)

Start of trekking

Passing thru graves

We stopped here while waiting for Kuya. He's looking for ropes that we are going to use along the trail
Back to trek. But this time, the trail is not as easy as before.

This is one of my few shots along the way. Since we needed to climb down steep trails, I stopped taking pictures for my own safety. For a beginner like me, the trail is a little bit scary.

This is where the cave is and our last stop

Going down with the help of Kuya's rope

We're here!

We were left here since we cannot risk crossing those boulders going to the cave. One wrong step and we are sure going to fall in the river with strong current and big rocks. Next time maybe.

One of my friend who is confident enough was able to enter the cave but they don't have a good flashlight. We were not that ready I think haha.
We just had our lunch here and took some pictures

We are looking for a good spot to swim

Swimming time :) Clean and cold water. We also got our drinking bottles refilled here

Going back to Brgy. Hall

Upon arrival at the barangay hall, they let us took a shower in their cr and off we go. Going back, we had a tricycle and boat ride again. But this time we met our previous trike driver going to Tanay Public Market at the highway. So we had P50 each trike ride at the rough road and transferred to our previous trike (the one we rode in the morning, he offered us a ride back to Tanay market in the afternoon giving us his contact number). Instead of P100 each, we paid P50 each.

Then at the market, we chose a bus ride so that we can have a comfortable ride going back to Shaw boulevard (P60). We got tired in the rough road I think.

So here is the list of our expenses:

Jeep from Shaw Blvr to Tanay Public Market - P53 each Trike to daraitan - P100 each Boat - P5 each Trike to brgy Daraitan - P10 each Reg fee - P20 each Guide fee - P500 Trike to boat - P10 each Boat - P5 each Trike to hiway - P50 each Trike to Tanay Public Market Terminal - P50 each Bus from Tanay Public Market to Shaw Blvd - P60 each

We would like to go back and try to enter the cave again and go camping at the summit. I hope soon :)
